Though it is one of the five noble grapes of Bordeaux, Malbec has more recently become associated with the high-altitutde lands of Argentina (more spefically, the pitch-perfect climate of Mendoza). Here is where the grape truly flourishes, bringing equal amounts of dark cherry fruit, spice, and mocha behind a wall of silky tannin. Along with the South American iterations of this trendy wine, Malbec can also be found in plenty of California field blends to add some much-needed structure.
