Iconic winemakers call it a stand-out vintage and return to a classic. And when Decanter, one of the world’s most influential wine magazines, reviewed the Napa Cabernets from the 2019 vintage, they concluded: “California’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon region has delivered a beautifully classic vintage in 2019, showcasing balance, energy, and tension.”
They went on to rate the overall vintage 4.5 out of 5.0 stars, which for a British-based publication that is typically stingy in its American critiques, says everything you need to know—in short, the 2019 Napa Cabs are drop-dead gorgeous. We have an absolutely stellar, easy-drinking, royally tasty, and shining example right here in this Lot 879.
Sourced from a small 4-acre site in Calistoga, California, you don’t need to know that the Cabernet clone planted in it is the French Dijon Clone 191. But you’ll taste exactly why this is a special clone—for it produces tiny clusters of thick-skinned berries with immense concentration.
The grapes are hand-picked over cool nights, resulting in a powerfully structured Napa Cabernet, balanced by juicy acidity, with deep fruit concentration on the palate running the gamut from red to dark black dark and tobacco, with firm, long-grained tannins and loads of decadent chocolate notes on a long, satisfying finish.
