Expectedly dark on the pour, this wine opens with a dominant blue-to-blackberry nose backed by dark chocolate and charcoal. The entry is best described as meaty, full, with iodine, crushed violets, and mocha across medium+ acidity and plentiful, small, firm tannins. The finish is long and herb-kissed making for waves of dried herb bouquets, with a hint of matcha. Venison, lamb, and barbeque fans, get the coals fired up!

When one thinks of Lodi, Petite Sirah doesn’t quite come to mind like the region’s more famous Cabs and Zins that it’s known for. It’s totally understandable, especially from a region defined by its heat and subsequent fruit-forward expressions of well-known varieties. But what happens when you take a big, bold grape like Petite Sirah from a ‘fruit-bomb’ region, then throw it in the hands of Napa Valley winemakers?
Lot 861 comes to us from the same producer as its sister wine, Lot 850 Cabernet Sauvignon, and was nurtured internally by our team to refine and finesse an otherwise standard Lodi fruit-forward showcase. The result is an expressive and approachable wine layered with fun nuances that would normally get lost in a fruit-dominated profile, massaging out some of the meatier and earthier qualities in this grape. As well, with no lack of acidity, it’s screaming for a meal, but quite enjoyable on its own – recommended at cellar temp on a nice summer evening.
