Pouring a beautiful straw color in the glass, the wine strikes an excellent balance between the fresh-cut grass and lime notes that some folks love in Sauvignon Blanc without going so deep into that profile to lose the white peach and pear notes that others prefer – hence a complete crowd pleaser. The entry reveals medium acidity, with kaffir and lemon oils leading into a finish of terroir-focused pea shoots, wet stones, and a welcome saline quality followed by a lingering apple blossom umami. A fantastic addition to the dinner table as well as being a worthy aperitif on its own.
Lot 815 comes to us from a winemaker that has been tending to the cool climate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc vines on their property for decades. On this stretch of land, nary a tourist, tasting room, or even proper signage can be found – only serene rolling hills blanketed by grapevines, with deft winemaking all done by hand and absent of modern flourishes. The early-harvest fruit for this wine is currently showing perfect balance and a crowd-pleasing profile right out of the bottle, though stubborn dedication to the craft and an absence of actual crowds seems to have resulted in a tiny bit of surplus – 350 cases, which we were quite happy to take off their hands for the benefit of our customers.
