CHW Confidential
Chenin Blanc, the white grape of the central Loire Valley, didn’t used to be such a rare bird stateside – prior to 2000, it was actually planted quite widely in California. Alas, most wineries gradually realized there was better return on investment producing Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc. However, the last few years have seen a bit of a domestic resurgence of this is a supremely versatile grape.
Lot 722 is a beauty – elegant yet robust, made in a dry style with light oak influence that is sure to please anyone who loves classic California Chardonnay. Aged for five months sur lie, the wine is produced by a multitalented gentleman who started his career as a sommelier in Michelin starred restaurants before taking his palate to the winemaking side of the industry.
