As I’ve mentioned before, my favorite opportunity buys are shiners – bottles of wine that have no label on them. Some folks just happen to have a little extra in their cellars, and I’m more than happy to scoop them up when available!
Lot 581 is a single vineyard designate wine from a boutique winery in the heart of the Russian River Valley. This is a classically styled Pinot Noir on the richer side of the Pinot spectrum - 2013 was a fairly substantial vintage for power and finesse, and both are on display here. With three years bottle aging already done for you, the only cellaring needed is a week to let the wine recover from its journey and you're good to go! Usually only sold in the producing winery's tasting room for $48, available here for only $22! Only 150 cases available!
Many pinots are thin. It's a finicky grape to grow. Lot 581 is a medium to full bodied, complex Pinot from a great location. Enjoy!
Very Good Pinot
I have this one over the last year, and I have liked this one more and more as it ages. It seems to be softening and getting more nuanced. I still like the 582 a little more, so I can only give this one 4 stars, but it is right up there. 4.5 stars would be more accurate....
Cranberry, light cherry cola, soft spices. Flavors mimic aromas, blend nicely. It comes across as a little thin...acidity may be a touch low. Still, enjoyable and solid value.
Great legs and body
Just recieved a shipment i ordered in the summer. (Buy & Hold). I took a ‘risk’ ordering a case of Lot 581, sight unseen/untasted. But I’ve learned to trust CAM’s palate/judgement. It’s a full bodied Pinot, with a very smooth finish. So glad I got a case! Great value and great taste!
Too Bad it's Gone
Just a great pinot, especially for the price.
Tried this with the 582 back to back. The 582 is worth more than the $1/bottle difference.
Drinking the 581 as weekday, fine value. Saving the 582, much more complex and shows greater promise.
An outstanding pinot for the price
This light, ready-to-drink-now pinot tastes like a $70 bottle. My first thought when drinking last night was...wow! Took me back to Burgundy. Muted fruit but a beautiful color and seemed low on tannins. My wife who normally drinks white enjoyed this sitting on the patio last night. I'm ordering some more right now
Enjoyed and compared this one to 582. While both were good, we've had some other Pinots from CH that we enjoyed more.
Would buy again
Lot 581 was everything you want in a Pinot Noir. Would definitely be buying another bottle.
Open, pour, enjoy!
I missed out on Lot 582, but 581 definitely did not disappointment.
Paired this Pinot Noir with 'cedar planked' salmon and asparagus on the grill this weekend. Fantastic combination!
The 581 is very silky, and does not need time to breath.
Open, pour, enjoy!
