Without a doubt, the best value in California right now (from a negociant’s perspective) is Zinfandel. With a lot of Zinfandel producers in Lodi focusing on feeding the red blend craze of the last few years, the huge volumes resulting from multiple high quality, robust vintages has put pressure on the price of even the best lots of high quality Zinfandel. At the end of the day, what makes our program sing is our ability to pick off the best of the best!
Lot 537 is sourced from one of the North Coast's pioneering wineries for the varietal. With fruit sourced from 60 year-old estate vines aged in 40% new American oak, this is a classic Zin: rich, ripe, and lush, but racy and balanced throughout.
Great as always
Been acquiring this every year great everyday wine.
I love this wine! I’ve bought multiple cases & would buy more if it wasn’t sold out. Our wine drinking friends always think we have opened an expensive California wine. This is a red wine lovers, big beautiful wine.
Alexander zin is always good!
Loved the wine.
good, and very good
Good Zin at a (very) good price.
Juicy, peppery, long finish!
Yes!! Bought this in 2017, and laid a few bottles aside. Even better now then when I first tasted! Juicy, slightly peppery, and long finish to keep you going until the next glass. Oh, darn, that was my last bottle, and in 2019, of course, none left. Thanks for a great zin!
very good indeed....
Sad to see it is gone
Took me back to the beginning of my red wine drinking days. I have not had a Zin like this for years. The nose was complex and fun as it continued to change before, during, and after the filet we had it with.
Perfect everyday Zin
We enjoyed this enough to buy more...the best value Zin I've found. Lot 537 has helped our family enjoy Zin more frequently, and with more types of food - grilled meat, homemade pizza with sausage and prosciutto, pasta with Arrabiata sauce. The raspberry and blackberries are joined by a bit of plum and cherry, and a touch of oak helps balance the fruit - didn't taste much of the licorice which others mention. This isn't a Seghesio or even an Earthquake Zin, but each of us preferred it to, for example, Cline Ancient Vines Zin...which cost a few dollars more but lacked Lot 537's flavor and complexity. Another steal thanks to Cameron Hughes and his amazing team!
Too bad it's gone...
Really nice Zin, good fruit, fully approachable now.
A very well balanced full body wine. Delicious!
