Wine Details

Boisterous nose of raspberry and plum with hints of sage and violet. The palate is rich with blackberry and ripe plum notes that meld beautifully with the tannins. Long finish redolent with fruit and chocolate, and a fantastic black pepper note that really only comes out with significant air. Clearly, the pepper note will grow in the bottle. Rich yet racy, this is a dynamite Zinfandel with more complexity than you would ever expect at this price point.

Lot 429 comes from 30-40 year old vines just up the valley from the famed Monte Rosso Vineyard (I throw that in there not because the soils are similar, but really to give you an idea of where the vineyard is – Monte Rosso is in a league of its own). Part of a grapes-to-wine partner program with the grower (who gets $2500-$3000/ton, which equates to $25-$30/bottle), the wine was produced and barrel aged (100% French oak) under our watchful eye at a winery in Alexander Valley.

We have purchased over 500 bottles of wines from Cameron Hughes, and this is one of our favorites. Flavor is fruity and fun to drink. At this price point it's one of our favorites.

I have spent 3 times more to almost reach this level!
Even though this was a tad young, it is a 12, after a good 2 hours it came to life. Medium deep berry front , with a loooong mid and awesome pepper berry to the finish, quit lush.

This is one of my favorite Zins, and you simply cannot beat the value. Every time I drink this wine I am amazed at the $14 price--this tastes like a $30 or $40 bottle. Stock up on this great value!

Good value here. At $14 you'll be happy with the purchase. A good Zin that people will ask you about when you serve it.

very complex,. has different flavors front, back and swallow. Then it stays on palate begging for more. finish depends how long it decanted. the longer the decanter the smoother the finish. semi smooth w/o decanting. At first i didn't like it so i aired it for an hour and was much better. than waited another hour and still better. my conclusion is incomplete...need to experiment with this one.

We like this kind of Zin; less Cherry more plum. Not the grocery store grape gum zin, true complexity with some earthiness/ spice at the finish, definitely less cloying. Has benefited from the extra time in the bottle. Already bought more.
