Le Clos du Caillou 2014 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve
A pure, elegant expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Appears Pinot Noir-like in the glass. It soars with a pungent nose of powdery pink florals and provencal herb, cherry compote, and raspberry pie supported by tremendously pungent and spicy Asian peppercorn aromas. On the palate the wine turns lush and sensuous, delivering the same intense purity of fruit in a fantastically supple texture – this is artisanal expression at its best.
A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre and produced only in the finest vintages. Aged for 14 months in large format demi-muid barrels with little new oak, this is an incredibly pure expression – all finesse and elegance. Rave reviews from Parker, Vinous, Spectator, etc. and normally found for $150/bottle, this is an undeniably beautiful wine that will have broad appeal over the next decade.
