Wine Details

Dark fruit, earth and mint leap out of the glass, mingling with a black cherry/blood orange mélange all wrapped up in a compelling robe of graphite and black licorice. Blackberry, cedar, dark chocolate and licorice are fleshy on the palate with sappy fruit, excellent length and structure. This wine delivers excellent sophistication and complexity exceedingly rare in Cabernets anywhere near this price point.

Cam Confidential

Handpicked Selections is a virtual winery (not unlike Cameron Hughes Wine) who sources grapes from the top regions around Australia to make very high-end wines, and Margaret River is a growing region located in the southwest corner of the Australian continent. The maritime climate produces world class wines such as Leeuwin Estate, Cullen Estate and Cape Mentelle. Handpicked’s 2013 Margaret River Cabernet is deep, dark and delicious with gobs of complexity. Having just won Double Gold and a 94 point score at the San Francisco International Wine Competition a few months ago, we are proud to be the first to offer this first-class Cabernet and tremendous value at $19.

Didnt quite meet my expectations based on its accolades and others' feedback - but it was enjoyable, just not that great.

I reordered this wine after I had my first bottle. It is fantastic! I love Cab and am usually disappointed in Cabs that are priced under $25, but now this one. Rich full bodied a mouth full of beautiful tasting cab flavors. Wasn't a huge tannic finish, just enough to make it one of the better under $25 cabs on the market. Great job for finding this one and selling it under the Hughes brand!

You can't beat the structure in this solid Cab. You certainly are going to enjoy this bottle for the price, tastes like a $50 Cab at $19. Finished our evening by the fire sipping this fantastic bottle, we wanted to try the friends of Cam, and I'm back on the site to buy some more today.

This is a milder Cab than I prefer. The start is nice, it makes me look forward to the mid palate, which is good, but this is where I'm left hanging. The finish is weak and just drops off. The licorice taste is not subtle either, but I do like the graphite/mineral in the mid palate.

I was surprised this wine ranked 94 pts. For the $'s it's a nice buy, but I would give it a 89 pts.

Just being honest, I have had more bad Australian cabs than good ones. When I saw this Australian Cab; 94 points and $19??? The only reason I bought this was because it has Cam's stamp of approval. Boy was I surprised! This cab is GREAT!! Dark, rich, and full with a beautiful aftertaste. I am buying more...

I haven't had a higher end Australian in awhile. I think this one is a great value, it has good structure and is ready to drink. As a Cameron Hughes customer, it is nice to get the added variety. This was the first friend of Cam that I tried and I was not disappointed, although I find some of the Napas from Cameron Hughes a better value.
