Wine Details

Dark yet vibrantly rimmed coloring suggests this is not your average Barbera. Gorgeous and intense aromas of molten licorice over warm river stones underpinned with high toned leather and sweet flower. Juicy and supple across the palate with dark cherry and clove notes resonating in a a delicious finish.

Cam Confidential

Fratelli Cigliuti dates back to a time when Renato’s father and his brother sold grapes and wine in bulk to local private customers. In 1964, Renato Cigliuti, the current owner and winemaker, inherited the estate and was the first to bottle his family’s wine. The estate remains family owned and run, now into its fifth generation with daughters Claudia and Silvia. Cigliuti is situated on the Serraboella hill, 350 meters above sea level, overlooking the village of Neive, in Barbaresco. The territory of Langhe is characterized by hills, steep slopes and a predominantly calcareous clay soil. The climate is mainly continental, with important differences in microclimate depending on the site. This terroir brings minerality, complexity, personality and longevity to the wines.

I was very impressed with this wine. Really nice fruit on the palate. It's more acidic than most of Cam's domestic wines, which made it a great addition to the pasta we had last night.

My palate runs toward old world, more rustic wines, so I was thrilled to see the Cigliuti offer. It has plenty of fruit, but it is well balanced and an ideal partner for a pizza or your Wednesday homemade pasta.

I'm glad I've still got a few bottles at home and look forward to more Friends of Cam offers.

Was intrigued by these "Friends" offerings and picked up the Rojo and the Barbera. Glad I did.

I've always preferred Barbera over other "budget" Italians (like Chianti). This wine has some of the dark cherry that Cam mentioned, and I got a bit of blackberry as well. Light on the tannins and above-average acidity. Certainly would buy again, but it looks like these Friends offerings are one-day deals.

All in all, I trust Cam's palate and this is a neat program so I hope more of these "exotic" wines show up in the store soon.
