Alexander Valley inhabits the eastern reaches of Sonoma County and, along with Knights Valley, is the warmest in the county. Quite frankly, I think if one were to re-assess Sonoma and Napa counties from a vinous perspective, it would be tempting to drop both Knights Valley and Alexander Valley into Napa County as it extends north. However, political designations care little about temperature profiles and soil structures, and having both AV and KV in Sonoma County are what make it the most diverse winegrowing region in the world, capable of supporting just about any varietal you can imagine.
Lot 548 was farmed and produced by third generation growers that have some of the best dirt and winemaking talent in the region. I loved this wine the minute I tasted it, and drove the best deal I could to be able to bring it to you at this price.
