Tips for the Perfect Backyard Date Night

Summer time and backyard parties!

I love this time of year in Texas. The weather is so nice, and it’s getting to be time for BBQs and backyard parties. I always love spending time outside. My favorite time of day is just before sunset when the light is soft and orange, and the temperature has dropped a little bit. During warmer months, I enjoy having dinner outside with my husband, Willy, and the boys. It’s always special. There’s something else I really enjoy though: spending alone time with Willy after the kids go to bed. If you’re a mom too, you probably know how special that is.

You don’t need to go out to spend quality time with your significant other. Date nights out of the house are difficult for us, my family lives in France, and Willy’s is across the country. We rarely get a babysitter but we also love spending time together at home, after the kids are asleep. We don’t do anything crazy but still really enjoy spending quality time together around a glass of Cameron Hughes Wine, listening to music and chatting about our hopes for the future.

Tips for the perfect in-home date night

Willy and I have become experts at in-home date nights. Let me share a few tips with you.

1 – Set up the mood

All couples have music that remind them of the beginning of their relationship or other memorable moments spent together, right? Well, listening to these songs is always a great way to bond and see how far you’ve come. Additionally, light up a candle or other soft light. It sets the mood for the evening.

2 – Turn off your phone

So many of us are glued to our phones. I’m guilty of this. It’s hard for me to put my phone down sometimes. It’s almost like a security blanket. It provides me with comfort. For a date night, though, our phones are off and far away so we can enjoy the night without distractions.

3 – Play simple games

Games are underrated. Willy and I like to play this game where you have to guess the name of a famous person. All you need is a piece of paper, a pen, and tape. You each write down the name of a famous person on a little piece of paper and tape it to your partner’s forehead. You each have to guess who’s on your forehead by asking only yes or no questions.

4 – Get a good wine

What would be a date night without a glass of good wine? Personally I really like Cameron Hughes Wines. They have a great variety of wines which are all high-quality and actually affordable. Their Riesling is my favorite.I like Cameron Hughes’ simplicity. They’re about what’s inside the bottle!

All about Cameron Hughes

Cameron samples thousands of wine samples a year, and “he tastes the bad stuff so you don’t have to”. Cameron Hughes is only one of a few Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) wine brands out there (like a Warby Parker or Dollar Shave Club), meaning they source their wine and sell direct to the customer. That’s how they’re able to sell an $80 Cabernet for $30. The traditional wholesale method has wine pass through three sets of hands before it gets to you with each step driving up the price. When my mom came to visit from France, she had their Red Wine from Washington State and was very impressed with the quality. Anyway, we definitely all love our Cameron Hughes wines.

I hope you enjoyed these tips for a great date night in the comfort of your home. Cheers!
