Wine Details
Shy at first with a bouquet of sour cherry, rocky minerality and rose petal, not to mention a solid beam of tannin you can smell as well as taste. As the wine opens up more complexity emerges, adding truffle and spicy black cherry to the mix. There’s tremendous tension on the palate, with flavors suspended as though in mid-air – soft and smooth, this baby is pure pleasure to drink now but clearly has a tremendous future.

Madame Douhairet asked Burgundy legend Andre Porcheret to take over the winemaking reigns in 1989, and Domaine Monthelie Douhairet Porcheret was born (Monthelie being the 300 year old village where Douhairet is located). The Premier Cru vineyard “En Champans “ is located in Volnay (just two miles over from Le Limouzin), but here Pinot Noir takes over from Chardonnay. “En Champans” is the heart of Volnay Premier Cru dirt, and highly regarded as one of the best of the 30 Premier Cru vineyards in Volnay. This site tends to produce balanced, elegant, feminine style Pinot Noir that needs a good 7 to 12 years in the bottle to open up. The Porcheret “En Champans” is true to this style.
