This is an intense expression of hillside cabernet, complete with the deep purple hues in the glass and heady aromas of cassis, plum, and molten licorice on the nose. On the palate, notes of blackberry and cassis are followed by layers of cigar box, spice and cocoa. The tannins are chewy and dense and at the same time perfectly delineated. The heft never interferes with the incredibly long, velvety finish which speaks to deft winemaking here (not to mention the judicious deployment of oak). Well-balanced with beautifully attenuated fruit, this pedigreed, reserve-quality Cabernet is drinking beautifully now but has the structure to last years in the cellar.
