A deep ruby pour and long legs equipped with exceptional hangtime welcome a bouquet evoking wet stones, eucalyptus, black cherries, and pencil shavings. The entry is expertly weighted, terroir-driven and at no lack for cassis and black currants interwoven with medium acidity and uniform, silky-yet-grippy tannins. The finish is resonant with exceptional length, dominated by vanilla with hints of baking spices followed by near-endless waves of raspberries, red clay, and black cherry.

Today’s offering is another acquisition from the same source winery and winemaker of recently sold out and well received Lot 857. Like its sister wine, this bottling also showcases the complexity that all of Napa Valley has to offer, high and low altitude, in a master class on blending. Originally produced and destined for a tasting room only program, March of 2020 and beyond had other plans for items like this. Seeing another great opportunity, we immediately jumped on this gem!
Lot 865 is a bench blend of multiple notable sub-appellations of the greater Napa Valley including, but not limited to Atlas Peak, Yountville, Oak Knoll, and Rutherford – injected with a healthy dose of estate fruit – that comes to us from a no-expense-spared estate and seasoned winemaking team led by a winemaker with as many awards as years in the industry. After bench blend trials, the wine was rested in barrel for 18 months, building a dynamic complexity that only a ‘Napa Valley’ wine can produce – the sum of the whole is greater than its parts. Originally destined to be a $90 bottling at the source winery, we’re overjoyed to be able to offer 400 cases of it to you at a third of that price!
