Cam Confidential
A spicy, peppery, fruity dark red grape without much name recognition outside its ancestral Austrian home (where it’s also known as Blaufränkisch), Lemberger is an incredibly delicious varietal that seems to be perpetually waiting for its moment in the spotlight by the broader wine drinking world. Like so many other deeply-colored grapes like Tannat, Lagrein, and Teroldego that share a similar plight, for now it remains an open secret and a darling among the industry’s cognoscenti. And now, you!
Lot 844 came across our tasting table and caught us completely off guard when we had our first taste. Washington is known for its experimental growths, and this was lightning in a bottle that immediately stood out among its peers. Crafted by the same highly decorated gentleman that provided us with Lot 843 Cabernet, this is a fabulous New World take on an Eastern European star. For the intrepid drinkers among you at the cool kids’ table who are always looking out for the next big thing, you might have found your new favorite red.
