Pale to medium garnet on the pour, while cinnamon, dried herbs, raspberry, and cured meats define the nose. On the palate, medium+ acidity strikes up front, ultimately mellowing and transitioning to notes of mocha, espresso, tobacco, and cherry fruit all framed by silky, polished tannins. The finish is immediate and dry, resonating with mild barrel influence that reflects a dried fig and sandalwood umami. While Italian wines are synonymous with food, this one stands perfectly well on its own but it’ll still make for one of the finest pizza wines around; also perfect alongside grilled meats, steaks and game meats.

CHW Confidential
Maremma is considered Italy’s “Wild West”, known for its cowboys herding Maremma longhorn cattle, undeveloped wilderness, white sandy beaches, and seaside villages. However, a Mediterranean climate provides favorable winegrowing conditions and draws plenty of Italy’s top winemaking talent, resulting in the region’s elevation from IGT to DOC status in 2011. Today, Maremma Toscana is the third largest DOC in Tuscany, only trailing Chianti and Chianti Classico.
Lot 838 comes to us from a pioneering Tuscan family that’s been in the game well over a century, having expanded their footprint to Maremma to broaden their scope of winemaking. Hand-picked and fermented in stainless steel before spending just over half a year in oak casks, this blend of 50% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon is bursting with concentrated fruit and a mocha terroir profile that beautifully reflects a land where the intersection of sun, ocean breezes, and clay come together to produce grapes of exceptional character.
