The Los Carneros AVA is famous for producing some of the best cool-climate and sparkling wines in the world. Located across both Napa and Sonoma at their southern ends by the San Pablo Bay, the fog and breezes from the bay combine with shallow clay soils to provide perfect growing conditions for the dynamite Pinot and Chardonnay vineyards that call this region home.
Lot 809 comes to us from an estate on the Napa side that’s been pioneering Carneros wine for over 50 years. Aged for just under a year in French oak with many additional years in cellar, this is a 2016 vintage offering that’s ready to deliver maximum drinking pleasure immediately. An extremely versatile wine, it stands brilliantly on its own as well as at the dinner table – most Pinots that you casually find on the market are best served with a food pairing, but this is absolutely sublime as a solo sipper. Showcasing a textbook New World expression of immaculate cool-climate fruit, it’s a superb upper-echelon gem from Carneros that we scooped up immediately when given the opportunity. This exact same wine received 91 points from Wine Spectator under its original label and is over $40 at the tasting room – yours here for less than half the price.
