Old World to the core, this wine is perfectly extracted with long, thin legs and a remarkable hang time expressing sour cherries, tomato leaf, potting soil, and a beautiful mushroom-y funk all haloed by cinnamon. Terroir defines the entry, showcasing soft leather, cherry fruit, and fresh turned soils with expertly balanced acidity and small, grippy tannins. The finish is worth the price of entry alone – long, dry, terroir dominated, and a kiss of resonant cherry and mushroom umami.

Lot 803 comes to us from a postcard-perfect estate on the banks of the Arno River, nestled between the hills and the coastal plain just a few miles inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea. A sublime red blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon produced from organically farmed vineyards, the grapes are hand-picked, fermented, and aged 12 months in French oak barrels before bottling. Scoring 91-93 from the major names vintage after vintage under its original winery label, this is a big, bold Italian beauty that will undoubtedly be a massive hit with this list.
