2002 Monterey County Pinot Noir
Dense with strawberries and cola with hints of watermelon and mint.
Mother Nature was very stingy in '03: Pinot Noir from this region averaged just over 2 tons per acre! However, steady sunshine with no heat spikes resulted in intense grapes and a deep colored must. The juice spent 14 months in 50% new and 50% neutral French oak. The resulting wine is equally dark and powerful Pinot Noir. On the nose, dense with strawberries and cola with hints of watermelon and mint. Gobs of strawberry and raspberry in the mid-palate with, again, hints of watermelon and mint finishing medium length, with a touch of soy sauce. Silky-smooth texture throughout. Yummy.
