Archetypal Napa red-to-black fruit aromas emanate from the glass; the berry ripeness is framed by black cherries and black currants, immediately followed by secondary notes of cedar and eucalyptus. Open-knit on the palate, initial waves of dried cranberries and figs arrive at the forefront, followed by baking spices, toasted vanilla, and medium acidity with polished, grippy tannins. The finale is uplifted by waves of toasted oak, rustic leather, and raspberry umami in a delicate interplay as the wine evolves in the glass from one sip to another.

Lot 798 comes to us from a state-of-the-art Rutherford winery, meticulously crafted using traditional techniques by a winemaker with over two decades of Napa vintages under his belt. Aged in French oak barrels for a year and a half prior to bottling, it’s already dynamic on the palate and is a textbook-perfect candidate to answer the question: “What does a Napa Valley Cabernet taste like?” This is a classically styled reminder of what made this world-famous region so special to begin with – exceptional fruit quality, depth of flavor, and plenty of structure, with an unmistakable origin from the very first sniff out of the glass. Showcasing plenty of verve from the moment the first drop hits your lips, it’s easily one of the best pound-for-pound Napa Cab values you’ll find all year.
