Atlas Peak, high above the fog line at 2663 ft overlooking Napa Valley, is world famous for its rugged terrain and volcanic soils that produce some of the most acclaimed wines on the North Coast. Growing fruit here is a particularly difficult labor of love and the yields tend to be small, but through struggle there is reward – the bold, dense Cabs from this AVA tend to age magnificently, and are as distinct as they are exquisite.
Lot 796 comes to us from a multi-generational Napa wine producer, and embodies the essence of the AVA. Crafted from vineyards planted in volcanic soils that imbue both richness and elegance into the grapes, this is a bold, dark wine with an abundance of black fruit tones and a hint of dark chocolate that checks all the boxes that collectors of mountain wines look for in a long-term cellar candidate: big tannins, medium+ acidity, restrained alcohol levels, aging in new French oak barrels, and a history of 90+ scores from the big names in the last few vintages.
Priced just shy of $100 from the original winery, it’s yours here for a third of the price.
