The historic heart of Napa Valley whose distinctive soil (a.k.a. “Rutherford Dust”) has become synonymous with the legacy of its greatest ever vintners, there are few places in California wine country with a more illustrious pedigree.
Lot 790 comes to us from a gentleman with decades of proprietorship in Napa Valley and over 30 years of European and American winemaking under his belt. Known for producing wines in a “minimal interventionist” style that allows the grapes to fully express their fruit character, this wine is exactly what you’d expect – not a dense and impenetrable beast that requires years of additional cellaring before the drinking window even begins to open, but a smooth drinking 2017 vintage Cab with an archetypal Rutherford dust flavor profile that’s already showing beautifully well.
Given the current market conditions, a wine of this quality and pedigree at this price is a fabulous find. If you’ve never had an archetypal Rutherford Cab before, this is a perfect chance to see what the hype is all about with a Cabernet from one of Napa Valley’s apex appellations at a smoking hot price ($85 under original label). If you’re already familiar with what Rutherford has to offer, this will be an easy decision indeed.
Very fine Rutherford Cab
Typical CH wine, bold and juicy. Second Rutherford I've ordered from CH and not the last probably. Waited a couple days due to travel, shared a bottle with friends and I'm sure they've ordered some by now. Excellent!
Another Nice Rutherford Wine
Release email said Rutherford, one of my fave areas for Cabs so immediately ordered 6 in a mixed case. I love Rutherford wines and this did not disappoint. I'm down to one bottle of Lot 606 so this release came at a good time for me. The wine has a delightful nose, dark berries, with medium tannins, quite smooth with decent legs and packs good flavor for being young. The other 5 bottles will "rest" for another year or so when I expect it will be that much better. Also going to have to order more so I don't miss out stocking up on this good value.
Rutherford Region always a winner
Was very excited to get this cab- love the Rutherford region for wines and this did not disappoint
Great wine and value
Paired this cab with a medium rare New York strip steak. Both were excellent. Have never had a CH cab that i didn't enjoy. Have purchased about 30 cases over the years.
It has a good strong flavor and a long dry finish, but not the best value for the price.

This was a great cab. Very smooth and flavorful. It wasn't as bold as Rutherford usually is, but the smoothness made up for it.
Ok I am a big fan of the wine produced in the Rutherford area and Lot 790 is a fine representation of a Rutherford Cab. On the pour you get "lazy legs" which are slow forming and slow retreating. With 14. ABV I am assuming this is from residual sugar. Lot 790 has a deep deep opaque ruby color with a dark red rim. On the nose in my particular glass the fruit of black cherry and black currants drew you in to make you want to linger longer than normal. On the palate you get a great example of what a Rutherford valley wine has to offer. Black cherries and velvety tannins with that are well balanced with some mild acidity. The finish was long, dry and extremely smooth with great body. This tastes like a Chimney Rock cab I had a couple of days ago. I was finishing a bottle of a Lot 606 I opened a couple of days ago and I have to say I preferred Lot 790 even though this was three years younger. I will definitely order more. What a treat! With only 300 cases I better act quickly.
This is a nice cab, bold and rich! I think it tastes a little young but age will make this wine amazing. Cheers!
After my first sip, I pushed the glass over to wife and said "Wow, you have to try this wine"! She took one sip, then took the entire bottle upstairs with her and said, "This is mine"! This is an impeccable Cab that you will purchase over and over again! Initially with the opening, you can taste the black currant and plum, then it finishes well with black cherry, herb, and a hint of tobacco! it's excellent!
