CHW Confidential
Lot 787 is an apex Italian offering from one of the best vintages of the past decade. Masterful vineyard and leaf canopy management was required to protect the grape clusters from a particularly warm growing season, and the result is a bold expression of phenomenal quality, tremendous aging potential, and more color stability than any other vintage in recent memory. The Nebbiolo grapes extracted tremendous local character from the calcareous clay and sandstone soils of Barolo’s sloping hills, and were aged in the traditional Slavonian botte grande oversized oak casks for three years before bottling. An intense wine showcasing the region’s unmistakable terroir, it’s easily one of the finest imports we’ve had the pleasure of tasting this year. Per usual with the top-end gems out of Barolo, this wine is expected to cellar well over 20 years – hopefully you’ve got some patience.
