Calistoga is one of the few remaining places that still resembles the Napa Valley of old – a little town that’s only accessible via two-lane roads and actually bans fast food franchises by law to preserve its historic charm. World-famous hot springs aside, it also has the highest percentage of volcanic soils in the valley and experiences its most extreme diurnal swing – a temperature shift that provides the grapes excellent acid retention and overnight recovery. Unsurprisingly, a number of iconic wineries can be found in this AVA.
Lot 775 comes to us from a terrific fifth-generation wine producer, crafted to show classic Napa terroir and an obvious French lean by its winemaker’s deft hands. Despite plenty of volcanic soil influence, this is a fine wine with elegant extraction – an old school Cabernet from an old school part of the valley.
Great Cab, easy drinking
Great cab, was easy drinking, on the lighter side, not as bold as I would have liked at this price point. A little expensive compared to other CH wines.
Day 2 had opened up a bunch. Getting lots of cherry, medium tannins enough to keep the wine balanced. I have a feeling this wine will get better with age, feels young right now.
middle of the road
can not call it a great wine but was a good wine. A little pricey for the quality
We wanted to save this bottle for a special occasion but decided to open it on June 7th. No occasion. After work. Typical vegetarian dinner. OMG. We both said wow. Cherry. Smooth. Velvet. What the? We LOVE this! They're out of stock?!
This is a very enjoyable wine. It paired well with our steak and was even better the second night ( less than half a glass left). I would decant this wine for at least an hour before enjoying the first sip. At the price point, I am not sure its a great value but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
This wine underwhelmed me. It was drinkable but that says it all. Flavor not particularly remarkable. Poor aroma too.
Very enjoyable sipper, great aromas and excellent finish.
Great cab, pleasant on the nose and palate. Aromas of cherry, chocolate. Long finish. A little expensive compared to other CH wines, though.
Robust nose of red fruit, dusty florals and wet stone. Satisfyingly dry palate with great length.
Cab all Day
A very enjoyable wine, great paired with red meat.
