Nestled within the southern end of the Santa Lucia mountain range, the Adelaida District AVA is located at the highest point of Paso Robles wine country and is home to some of the oldest vineyards on California’s central coast. Here, mountain vines grow their roots deep into rocky calcareous soils, bathed in warm Paso Robles air by day and cool Pacific breezes by night to produce some of the finest grapes on California’s central coast – especially Rhône varietals like Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre.
Lot 768 comes to us from a very picturesque estate whose winemaker trained at French houses before making the natural transition to crafting Rhône varietals stateside. Unsurprisingly, the trophy cabinet here is full of top scores and gold medals galore collected over the past decade. A superbly balanced wine in its youth that already shines today with a healthy decant, this is an exceptionally tasty example of how great American Grenache can be - available here for less than half the tasting room price!
Fruity and Light
Very much enjoyed this! It had great flavor but was very light.
A slight tang
Very smooth with a mild berry content. A nice initial flavor and a distinctive finish. This wine is unique. I'll be ordering more.
Supple yet crisp fruitiness.
Delicious combination of raspberry and strawberry with a bit of spice and earthiness. Medium acidity but significant depth and finish. Supple body yet also crisp. This pairs really well with salmon. Excellent value for this price.
Great bottle of wine, particularly at this price.
This bottle was a pleasant surprise. I don’t believe until this bottle that I have ever had an American Grenache straight up. My previous experiences with this grape were in the typical GSM blends. I had low expectations for this wine as I am not a fan of GSM’s - dry. Not much fruit, and overly spicy.
I would have thought I was drinking a Russian River Pinot (and a good one!). With just a hint of spice. Really tasty and interesting. I will add more in my next order
If a Pinot and a Zin had a baby
This is exactly as described . . . lots of raspberry and strawberry. Incredibly smooth. Long vanilla finish. A yummy bottle at a great price. But it is nothing like a Rioja or a Rhone. Totally new world. The fruitiness is like a fun Zin. The body and earthiness is very Pinot-like. The most feminine Grenache I have ever had. I'll definitely buy more, but to go with a burger or salmon. Not a steak.
Susan and Kent
Delicious right out of the bottle. It is crisp and fruity and is very smooth on the tongue. The flavor is wonderful. We are serving it with salmon and it is a perfect match.
From the first pour, an absolutely gorgeous ruby color with great depth, character and polish. A stunning nose that enlivens the senses with fresh berries picked right from the vine. Smooth, elegant and very well rounded. Hints of dried figs, pepper and Concord grapes. Delicate tannins, medium bodied, and amazing finish that lingers on the palate. Great find and would highly recommend. Truly a great American Grenache. For anyone who has never tried this varietal before, this is the one to try. This one won't disappoint
