Mendocino delivers seriously terrific quality for price. It’s home to an eclectic mix of small family wineries on California's North Coast, bordered by redwood forests to the east and a rugged coastline to the west. Famous Napa and Sonoma wineries have been augmenting their wines with Mendo fruit for quite some time now, but some of the appellations within Mendocino have emerged as stars in their own right while still maintaining relatively approachable prices – the Anderson Valley, Mendocino Ridge, and Yorkville Highlands AVAs are particularly renowned for their quality.
Lot 766 comes to us from a family winery that’s been growing grapes for six generations (starting in the mid-1800s). 150 years later they’re still at it, guided by a “minimal intervention” winemaking philosophy and letting the fruit do its work. No complaints here – their wines are a fantastic expression of what this region has to offer, and we were happy to scoop up this small batch of 2018 Cab from their cellars.
