Dark on the pour with long legs, the nose is an amalgamation of red and blue fruits haloed by redwood and graphite. The palate is beautifully delineated cherry, blueberry, and earth-based terroir framed by new leather alongside medium acidity with small, grippy tannins. The finish centers around an exceptional, no-expense-spared French oak regime, playing up the wood umami without sacrificing the wine’s sense of place – if you've ever spent time in the Santa Cruz mountains, you'll recognize that early morning fragrance.

The first California appellation to be defined by its mountain topography (some of the vineyards here go as high as 2800 ft up), the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA is home to some of the oldest wineries in the state. Today, about 75 wineries and a collection of growers can be found in this AVA, which contains a spectrum of microclimate expressions from warm valleys to cool foggy coasts. Many of them are only accessible via remote, winding roads, making this an incredibly fun region with all kinds of hidden treasures for the intrepid wine enthusiast to explore.
Lot 763 comes to us from one of the most famous producers in the region, if not the entire state. The grapes are grown in a cool climate vineyard planted at the top of the mountain with prime exposure, blanketed by the morning fog up a long, precarious winding road in the Santa Cruz Mountain Range with sweeping Bay Area vistas. Artfully crafted into a sumptuous blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot, this is a Bordeaux style blend that is simply rock solid, and the pedigree could not be higher. A true gem.
