Located North of Napa and Sonoma, bordered by a rugged coast to the west and redwood-blanketed mountains to the east, Mendocino is home to an eclectic mix of small family wineries. Big names from Napa and Sonoma have been purchasing Mendo fruit to augment their wines for a long time now, but some of the appellations within Mendocino have become stars in their own right – the Anderson Valley AVA is now considered one of the top regions in the state (if not the country), and others like Yorkville Highlands and Mendocino Ridge have also been producing exceptional wines (while maintaining relatively approachable prices).
Lot 749 comes to us from a producer with beautiful vineyards planted on Anderson Valley hillsides dotted with oak trees. The grapes reach maturity basking in warm western afternoon winds, with deft hands crafting them into wines that deliver fruit in abundance but also a bit of soft terroir. Showing a very balanced extraction and plenty of structure to boot, this is a terrific Cabernet at an extremely attractive price point that’s sure to please the daily-drinking and special occasion crowds alike.
