Pours dark in the glass, with that textbook Malbec magenta-to-purple rim. The juice is fruit forward on the nose, with black cherry and plums backed by undertones of vanilla, cocoa, and subtle hints of leather. The entry is deftly balanced and more terroir-driven, with leather in the forefront riding small, well-integrated tannins augmented by a cherry-like acidity. The finish is dry and clean, rounding out with notes of fresh tobacco.
Mendoza has arguably the greatest concentration of high-altitude vineyards in the world. Lot 731 comes to us from a gorgeous winery in Maipú, the province’s most historic wine region. A standard-bearer for organic vineyards in Mendoza, this postcard-worthy estate is surrounded by olive groves and overlooks the Andes range, with vines planted at 3000+ ft. above sea level. Crafted by a third generation winemaker, this is a delicious expression of Malbec that will undoubtedly please long-time fans and newbies alike.
