Besides the infamy of being the location of that default Windows wallpaper, Los Carneros is most famous for producing some of the best cool-climate grapes in the world. Located in both Napa and Sonoma, the region is most widely known for its Pinot and Chardonnay vineyards, but there are pockets of microclimates that provide terrific conditions for Merlot and Syrah as well. Lot 713 comes to us from one such pocket, sourced from a small family winery owned by a third-generation farmer and produced by a winemaker with top pedigree who trained under one of the most legendary winemakers in the history of the industry. I scrambled to get my hands on this wine the moment it was made available to me, and I’m glad I could hit the “send” button before it reached any other potential bidders!
