Besides the infamy of being the location of that default Windows wallpaper, Los Carneros is most famous for producing some of the best cool-climate grapes in the world. Located in both Napa and Sonoma, the region is most widely known for its Pinot and Chardonnay vineyards, but there are pockets of microclimates that provide terrific conditions for Merlot and Syrah as well. Lot 713 comes to us from one such pocket, sourced from a small family winery owned by a third-generation farmer and produced by a winemaker with top pedigree who trained under one of the most legendary winemakers in the history of the industry. I scrambled to get my hands on this wine the moment it was made available to me, and I’m glad I could hit the “send” button before it reached any other potential bidders!
I wish there were more Merlot options. It is my favorite grape, but pickings are slim. This one was not great, but went well with Marinara pasta.
We bought this early on and really liked it, happy it came back around!
The Jury is still out!
I bought some of this when it first became available based on its recognition at some tastings. I was eager to try it and opened one a few days after receiving it. I kind of base all my Merlot comparisons to Lot 641, which I thought was excellent. This one did not come close to that as it did not seem to have nearly the same mouthfeel and body. I probably should have let it rest longer after UPS tossed it around for a few days, but will open another in a month or so and see how it really pans out.
I don't buy Merlot. Buy this one!
This is a smooth, big, mouth watering merlot that will leave you wanting to open the next bottle. Dry with a nice finish.
Perfect wine to share on a cool night beside a warm fire with your husband
It's worth it.
I'd pay a few dollars more than $18 for this. Big, mouth-wattering merlot flavor. Savory, BBQ, and spice over deep fruits. Happy to have it on my account shipment. Probably wouldn't fill an order with it for myself. It's a solid bottle.
Medium bodied. Smooth with some dark fruits, spices, tannins. Enjoyed.
Lovely, wish I bought more
Finally got around to opening this one and wishing I had bought more. Very smooth and balanced merlot. Definitely tasted the plum component.
Nice but not Great
Nice balanced merlot.
Another good one
Nothing to complain about with this one~ Nice basic Merlot. Great daily drinker goes with everything or good to sip on just by itself.
