Lot 699 is produced from killer dirt on the west side of Calistoga, sourced from a $130/bottle program that has amassed 90-96 pt ratings and double gold medals galore over the past decade. I was lucky to get my hands on this - and now, so are you!
Blockbuster Napa Valley Cab for a quarter of the original price – need I say more?
I was a bit impatient to try this so I didn’t let it decant very long. Regardless, it has a lot of character and I can’t wait to see how it ages. Will be hard not to drink so perhaps I’ll have to buy some more!
Will age beautifully
Intense and delicious. Let it decant a while. Will be amazing in a few years
4 stars on a limited decant with sure potential to reach 5 stars in time! It’s young, tight but we’ll balanced. Worth the price of admission and will TRY to let the remaining bottles sit for a bit.
At this time, it is still a very tightly wound wine, almost harsh at the finish, high in tannins. It really opened up the second day. We liked the complexity of flavors on day 2. This wine still needs time to come into its own. We’ll let it be for a year or two.
Let it sit a while
Wow, that's intense. Aroma is black raspberry, loam, some mineral. Flavor comes across more blueberry, with a strong earthiness to it, assertive tannins and a high enough alcohol that it's noticeable. It's fairly tight right out of the bottle....definitely would recommend a decant. I will let this one age a bit more before coming back to it.
hide and seek
I need to hide this from myself so that I don't drink it all now. Should be superb with age.
When I think of Calistoga I think of Hot Springs and Mud Baths. Now I am going to think of LOT 699. When I received my shipment I let it rest for a few days. I opened the first bottle and decanted it for a few hours and it really opened up. There are enough tannins that this bottle will definitely hold up to a couple of years in the cellar. The nose is first of black cherry then blackberry and cassis as well as Calistoga minerals. The finish is rich and very long. LOT 699 is rich to the point of almost being chewy but very well balanced considering the 15% alcohol content. I think I will keep this for a few years before drinking because even though it is very good right now I think it will be fantastic after a few years. I would recommend purchasing this wine while you can.
Too young, will be great in 12 to 24 months!
This should be a keeper, but you'll need patience to wait until the color turns from purple to ruby.
