Sourced from one of the most renowned and venerated wine-growing districts in the world. Low yields per vine are required to obtain good sugar levels, intense color, and the fullest flavor extraction. Traditional fermentation is followed by malolactic fermentation and then laid to rest for 4 years of aging (hence the Riserva moniker; non-Riserva Barbaresco requires 2 years). From the best south-facing slopes in Barbaresco and with a good bit of barrel and bottle aging, Lot 692 is an Italian masterpiece.
Splashed out on this and the barolo (Lot 693). Not used to drinking wine at this price point but in danger of getting used to it! Distinctive as compared to my usual go to cabernets.
One of my first steps into Italian wines, and this one did not disappoint. Great from the very first sip.
Not My Favorite
I so wanted to love this wine, I am a huge fan of Italian wines but have not found anything with the Nebbiolo grape that I love (although I keep trying it). Everything from the age, the descriptions appealed to me. We used the Corvin since it was real cork, poured each of us a glass and let it sit 45 minutes with a swirl every so often. Perhaps it was the pairing (homemade meat lovers pizza). I will try the rest of the bottle with a steak. It tasted a bit thin and washed out. Don't let my review keep you from trying it though - I think its me and the grape - not this wine.
Very nice (Borat voice)
Awesome bottle. Cork was in great shape. Give it an hour. Not going to say to was the best CH value ever. But worth a try - its dry, earthy and kinda pulled me in as the evening went on.
Wow. Just wow.
A bit pricey for CH, but absolutely a bargain. Stunningly good.
Confirms value of Piedmont reds.
This is why I buy Piedmont reds. Just opened for pasta with Italian sausage. NO cork issue on this bottle!
Fulfilled my expectations
13 year old PIEMONTE! I was expecting a fantastic Italian Nebbiolo and I was not disappointed. Legs formed nicely and lingered. A nice translucent medium garnet color with brick orange on the rim. On the nose you notice the fine aging of Lot 692 along with leather and clay. On the palate the usual tannin of young Nebbiolo has receded nicely to allow some acidity to come through which was a nice experience with the succulent beef ragu
Italian wine at its best
This was a very dry wine but also extremely complex. I enjoyed every sip. It was very well balanced and went well with dinner and after dinner drinks!
Ripe cherries and some leather and earthiness on the nose. Red fruits with a smidge of tartness, inviting acidity, and smooth oaky tannins on the palette that linger for a medium long finish. This is just a super smooth, well balanced wine.
Give me more!
13-year-old Barbaresco under $40.... Awesome. No its not the biggest most complex ever - but the quality is there, the age is there, just let it open up. I'll be ordering more before its gone.
