Perfect with Pot Roast
Inky with dark berry and chocolate notes, we found it to be perfect with our pot roast dinner. Decanted it for a while as others had suggested, and it only tasted better as time passed that evening.
Best with food
Cal-Itals are hit & miss for me, and this was my first barbera from Amador. It was riper and heavier than Italian barbera, but it came alive with crisp, balancing acidity when paired with beef. This one definitely shines more with a meal than solo.
Good wine for a good price
Great wine for a good price. Pairs well with steak tacos.
Not a typical Barbera. Very heavy wine with a tone of ripe fruit. Good with a heavy meat dish.
The wine was good, but I've had Barbaras that I've enjoyed more. The flavor was short lived. Probably would be good paired with food with bold flavor to compensate
Spot on Barbera flavor
Great body, great finish. Paired well with ribeye steak
Very smooth, very flavorful!
I have not tried this type of wine before. At first I wasn't sure about it but as I kept sipping I enjoyed more and more! Great value!
Average Table Wine @ Low Cost
The Barbera from Amador County appellation is quite a lot different than the one I have had from Italy. The Italian one is along with the Montepulciano are my favs. This one takes a good pairing to be enjoyed. Also, I found that this wine needs to mature after letting it breathe for 30-45 minutes . I tried pairing it with four different types of cheese but the magic just wasn't there. It fails to strike the right balance between acidity and tannins for me personally. It's an average table wine and I am not sure if i will buy more again unless it is deeply discounted by CH Wine.
Definately a different representation of barbera than it's Italian counterparts. It hits you right away with those big California red fruit flavors of raspberries and jam. Alone, i was not enjoying this wine. However, when i added food the flavors really evolved on the palate. Not sure if i will buy again. I have another bottle of this barbera to explore before i make my final decision.
