Wine Details
A terrific food wine. Dark and inky in the glass, your first thought might be, “This ain’t your grandfather’s Barbera.” Resinous and vibrant, it opens with a sumptuous nose of chocolate covered cherries and tobacco, with raspberry and blackberry notes gathering weight as the wine opens. On the palate, this wine has a super smooth entry that quickly gets lip smacking and juicy with a vibrant structure of pretty red fruits and cherry flavored tobacco. Pair with roasted pork, spaghetti and meatballs, skewers, and burgers.

Amador's climate (comparable to St Helena’s) makes for fantastic grape-growing conditions. For a region responsible for only 1% of California’s wine production, it has somehow managed to collect 30% of medals awarded – more per acre than any other California AVA. Lot 691 comes to us from ground zero for kick-ass red wines in the Sierra Foothills. Hailing from one of the most renowned winemakers in the region, this old vine Californian expression of a northern Italian classic is a great deal that doesn’t come across my desk very often.
