The Sierra Foothills continues to be a personal favorite region of mine to find amazing deals. Located in the rolling hills at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains at 1500-3000 above sea level, this AVA has a history of viticulture dating back to the Gold Rush era of the 1840s. It’s home to about 100 wineries (mostly boutique and family-owned), almost all of which are too small to be picked up by national distributors – a perfect opportunity for folks like me.
Lot 683 comes to us from a boutique winery on a ranch just off Hwy 49. Produced at the crossroads of reasonable land costs, great wind/sun exposure, and prime drainage, this one hits all the check marks for “California hidden gem.” Amidst rolling oak-studded hillsides, long forgotten 49er towns, and sandy clay loam soils perfect for grapes, we hit the jackpot with this one. Who said there isn’t gold still to be found in these old hills? This is the best Zinfandel deal of the year.
low cost Zin
this is a great zin for the money, pairs well with meats
not hugeee into zins but i really cant complain at all, great value as usual and holds up well to meat
For the price I could drink this all day. That said I did prefer Lot 685 better. My bottle had a little sediment which was unexpected. It did have a nice flavor regardless. I detected no acidity at all and a medium tannin in the first taste. Nose of plum sauce and gravel witha hint of dill. Lot 683 had a medium finish. Nice for a $12 bottle. I could drink this every day.
I rate it #1 for value
This zin has a great nose and a very delicate finish. If you did a blind taste test with other more expensive zin's you would be completely fooled to know that Cam sells this at $12 a bottle.Put your mask on and steal this while you can.
I use to live in the Sierra foothills and had no idea these came from there! What a gem and Zin is one of my husbands favorite
We were quite impressed with this Zin! Great bottle for an unbeatable price!
A nice well-balanced Zin
I really enjoyed this Zinfandel with a fresh pesto, veggie and spicy Italian sausage pizza I made. It was nicely balanced with a jammy nose. Tend to like my Zinfandels with less fruit and a tad more spiciness, but this medium bodied Zin really went down well. Even better on the second night. Lovely tannins.
a gentle zin
The nose is that of dark stone fruit and faint earthy, autumn leaves. The fruit notable at the front, black plum followed by a bit of pepper and finishing with soft lingering tannins. A good end of the day glass that may not make you think to hard.
A good one!
The Lodi Zin is my first choice, BUT this Zin is also great! CH rarely disappoints!!
This is a tasty Zinfandel but lack the spice that the Lodi Zinfandel has to offer. Great price point.
