Lot 661 is sourced from the estate vineyards of one of Napa’s legendary wine growing families – an absolute rock star Cab that’s an awesome example of the terroir of the “benchlands” running along the eastern side of Napa Valley. Combining fruit from three estate vineyards in St Helena, Rutherford, and Oak Knoll and aged in 65% new French oak, this is a classic, stunning Napa Valley Cabernet. Farmed to rigorous standards (with select rows shared with $140 single vineyard programs), this big, dense and inky Cabernet combines richness and structure in a pitch-perfect example of the 2016 vintage. With fruit, structure and density all on display in spades, this is definitely one for the cellar. It requires a long decant in the near term, and will age another 10-15 years.
Nice wine for a steak
Great wine for short ribs or something similar. Second taste is better than the first. Open early and let it breathe.
Very Good Cab
One of my favorite CH cabs from CA. Tasty cab, not too fruit forward, very well balanced with a dry finish. No matter your style, this wine will taste great!
Too bad this is out of stock. We enjoyed this wine with a high-quality beef filet and enjoyed it immensely.
I thought this was a decent cab, but it just didn't hit me as much as the 663, for example. This one was a bit flat overall. Was expecting more. I have another bottle and will probably lay it down for a while.
Everybody enjoyed it at our Christmas dinner. We didn't have time to let it breathe so we drank it immediately after opening. It was exceptional.
2nd Day Nectar
Pulled the cork and tasted an inch - it was closed, as expected. Put the cork straight back in and opened some other CH wines. Lot 661 the next afternoon was tasting beautifully.
Opened up nicely
We opened up this bottle and decanted it for about an hour prior to a birthday steak dinner. While I, unfortunately, overcooked the steaks a tad, Lot 661 came to the rescue. Everyone enjoyed it immensely.
Not a big fan of this one. The aroma is fruit forward with some crushed rock. Flavor-wise, it's a bit flabby....doesn't quite balance. If I didn't know any better, I'd guess this to be a Cab/Merlot blend with more than 50% Merlot. It drinks fine, but nothing special...if it was about half the price, I would be ok with it. As is, I won't order more.
Did not meet expectations
Really looked forward to this one based on reviews and was a little disappointed. Very good Cab for the price but did not have the wow factor that many of the CH wines have relative to price. Good structure and bold fruit with nice balance of tannins but lacked some complexity. Hoped it would open up some after decanting but not much change. Maybe this one needs more time in the cellar.
Sorry. Had lots of great cabs from CH, but this is not one of them. Clusters of sugar stuck to our glasses, wimpy flavor, not at all memorable. Won't order more.
