My favorite Barberas all have a bit of altitude on them, thriving both in the red soils of the Sierra Foothills and the 1500-2000 foot gravelly benches and rocky ridges of Lake County.
Lot 621 comes to us from a terrific program in Lake County from one of California’s pioneering winemakers. Crafted by a gentleman with about half a century of winemaking experience across Napa, Sonoma, and the surrounding wine counties, this is a delicious Californian take on a classic Italian varietal, made under the watchful eye of a master by any definition of the word. Simply an incredible level of quality at this price.
This review is too late, as the lot has sold out. But this was a great bottle of barbera. I did not expect Lake County to produce such a good barbera. Just pull the cork and the aroma is instant. I will keep watch to see if another Lake County barbera is offered. Note to self: taste these wines quickly because they will be gone when you want to re-order.
Purchased this one to compare to Lot 591 from Italy. We enjoyed this one slightly better. It was lighter than most reds that we prefer, but it was definitely an enjoyable wine.
Another wonderful red from CH - Barbara is perfect with pasta, especially bolognese sauce. Also for savoring with any cheese and pepperoni appetizers.
Pasta for dinner with this wine takes it to a new level.
Perfect for Pasta Marinara
We love this wine! Hope you get more.
Beautiful nose, almost perfumed fruit. Very smooth blue fruit and a little spice explodes on the palate. Excellent and a pleasant surprise.
Blackberry and Licorice. Very nice wine. As good as (and some cases much better than) I have had when visiting Piedemonte, Italy.
This one is another really good deal.
Wonderful value and a favorite Barbara. Hope that this is available next year.
All Fruit and Licorice
Deep dark fruit and spicy licorice. All it needed was about an hour of air. HUGE value for the $$$
This was our first exposure to Barbera and we are very impressed. Couldn’t find any others at the wine store for less than twice the price. Very drinkable as an every-day wine.
