My favorite Barberas all have a bit of altitude on them, thriving both in the red soils of the Sierra Foothills and the 1500-2000 foot gravelly benches and rocky ridges of Lake County.
Lot 621 comes to us from a terrific program in Lake County from one of California’s pioneering winemakers. Crafted by a gentleman with about half a century of winemaking experience across Napa, Sonoma, and the surrounding wine counties, this is a delicious Californian take on a classic Italian varietal, made under the watchful eye of a master by any definition of the word. Simply an incredible level of quality at this price.
It's been a while since I have enjoyed a CA Barbera, but this version hits the spot. Utterly drinkable.
Pleasently surprised with this Barbera. Deep in color, fruity but also has earthy notes as well. Good price point. Will definitely buy more when available.
Dark blackberry, licorice notes. Amazingly tasty, pure pleasure -- had the summer hold on for October delivery. Otherwise, we might have been in time to order a case of this. Oh well, next time!
Love Italian Wine !
Bought two cases , decant for an hour and enjoy with just about anything .
Bold and gutsy
Sigh....it's out of stock. I have bought this wine three times now and could drink more. Delightful Barbera, bold and gutsy and a gift at the [rice.
Great introduction to this grape
I wasn't well versed in barbera, but if this is a good example I'll be back for more. Nice mix of fruit and body.
a very good wine that needed alittle bottle time
When I first tried this wine after just a few days after delivery it tasted "raw" and not ready to be drunk. Now after a few weeks it is showing very well.
Visual: Dark purple and quite opaque. Dense and thick legs down the side of the glass.
Nose: Black cherry and boysenberry with dusky/earthy notes.
Mouth: Medium body, with a nice acid balance. Cherry, boysenberry and tobacco with smooth tannins
Finish: Tart and pleasant, lasting 20 to 30 seconds!
One our favorite bottles from Cameron Hughes, and now our favorite Barbera, period. Nicely balanced -- a great food wine.
What a surprise this wine was! We have had other Barberas that did not taste this good or were priced so well. I think we are going to get more before it's sold out.
621 Barbera a GREAT value
I’ve not had this type of wine before, but i was pleasantly surprised at its subtlety bold flavor. Nice body and really fragrant. An excellent value! I’m looking to buy more...as soon as i make room for it!
