Lot 568
2014 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Under 200 cases of micro-production, critically acclaimed Pinot Noir shiners!
$18
Pretty in the glass with a brick red robe, the nose is surprisingly dark fruited at first glance, but opens up after a minute or two to reveal a vibrant, spicy nose of Bing cherry and raspberry framed by dark earth and subtle toasty oak. Classic Sonoma Coast. Given some air, the nose brightens with cranberry and rhubarb notes, revealing its lighter side and underscoring the more elegant aspirations of the winemaking team. Supple entry with plenty of verve and sinew to carry the sappy rhubarb and sour cherry fruit that reverberates throughout the palate.

Style: Medium, Fruity

Flavors: Cherry, Raspberry

Cam Confidential

Lot 568 comes to us as a shiner from friends of a friend – a couple of tech execs in love with Pinot Noir who decided to launch their own micro-production Pinot label. These are not your average hobbyists – both have UC Davis fermentation science backgrounds. The critics recognized their efforts, and the last few vintages have seen them pick up 90, 91, 92pts/Editors’ Choice/Cellar Selection awards from the Wine Enthusiast! However, as the old adage goes: making wine is far easier than selling it, particularly when it’s not your day job. Hence, our opportunity to pick up their production from the terrific 2014 vintage!

Sourced using fruit from the legendary Rodgers Creek Vineyard in the Sonoma Coast AVA. Located on the cooler west side slopes of Sonoma Mountain, it performs as a single vineyard designate for Sojourn and Landmark (to name a few), not to mention one of my favorite California Syrahs from Dave Ramey. With additional fruit coming from the Hurst Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, this is a beautifully rendered Pinot Noir that combines ripe yet pretty fruit with plenty of delineation, freshness, and structure. An opportunity to pick up a critically acclaimed, delicious Pinot Noir shiner (with a few years of bottle aging already done for you, I might add) under half the original price!
