I’ve recently come across a stash of just under 100 cases of “reserve” shiners – with well over a year already in the bottle, it’s a prime candidate for instant pop and pour and a terrific deal at $18 (vs its $30/bottle original label price). A blend of 37% Merlot/36% Malbec sourced from the Sonoma Valley and 27% Sangiovese from the Alexander Valley, this is a rich and concentrated red blend that’s very approachable and showing great balance - a classic crowd pleasing Spring sipper.
*Note: The original winery labeled their wine a "Meritage," so we relabeled the bottles as such. However, given the presence of Sangiovese in the blend (which isn't officially one of the "noble" Bordeaux varietals), we consider Lot 551 a Red Blend.
Smooth and Tasty
This is a mellow red blend. Lighter than the delicious 575 Washington blend, but very tasty and smooth. A wonderful change of pace. Highly recommended!
This is ok but not up up high ch standard
This is probably the smoothest blend I can recall tasting- great value.
Excellent representative of Sonoma wines.
While visiting the Sonoma wine area back in March I fell in love with the wines there. This one ranks up there with some of the best small vineyard red blends: an elegant mouthful of wine.
You never know what you'll get in a Blend. That's why I like them. This one was a home run. Great value. Sorry I only bought two bottles.
We had this wine as a follow up to a $30+ Bordeaux blend. It was a delight to have some California fruity wine with a nice spicy finish after the flatness of the Bordeaux.
I really like the balance and spicy finish.
It is well worth the $18.
