Aged in a combo of French and American oak, this juicy, jammy Cabernet packs plenty of flavor and structure for a California Cabernet. Blackberry, cedar and plum are wrapped in lively graphitic florals that are nicely delineated now with a couple of years in the bottle. Lush blueberry and black cherry on the palate are underpinned with crushed rock, cedar notes, and finish in a wave of chewy, red licorice-inflected tannins. Still drinks beautifully on the third day after opening.

Style: Medium, Fruity

Flavors: Blueberry, Cherry

Cam Confidential

Always on the lookout for a great value, I’ve come across a few hundred cases of sub-appellated, single-vineyard-designated Cabernet shiners from Paso Robles. We haven’t sourced too often from Paso, but when we have (Lot 458 Petite Sirah, anyone?) the praise from our list has been enormous.

Lot 541 delivers an opulent, exceptional punch at $14/bottle. If what you’re are looking for is a weekend Cabernet at a weekday pop-n-pour price, I’ve got your wine. Per usual, as part of the purchase we’ve agreed to mention neither the vineyard nor the sub-AVA in Paso Robles.
