Always on the lookout for a great value, I’ve come across a few hundred cases of sub-appellated, single-vineyard-designated Cabernet shiners from Paso Robles. We haven’t sourced too often from Paso, but when we have (Lot 458 Petite Sirah, anyone?) the praise from our list has been enormous.
Lot 541 delivers an opulent, exceptional punch at $14/bottle. If what you’re are looking for is a weekend Cabernet at a weekday pop-n-pour price, I’ve got your wine. Per usual, as part of the purchase we’ve agreed to mention neither the vineyard nor the sub-AVA in Paso Robles.
Great Nose, Great Tannin, Great Finish
Deep, dark red. Good legs. Sediment is apparent. Bold nose that compliments the bold body. A tannin bomb with tobacco and dark chocolate flavors on the forefront. Long lasting, warm finish. Not for the faint of heart :)
Very good cab
I pulled this out for dinner after holding it for awhile. Nice dinner wine with beef. Probable will get even better with age. I let it decant 2 hours
I was going through my CH wines for a Valentines Day dinner and pulled out several cabs, reading the reviews where most suggested they needing more time, so I pulled out this one. What a pleasant surprise! Really nice flavor, low tannins and not dr at all. Went great with my grass-fed steaks.
Wish I had tried it before it was gone
Always interesting to make review notes on the wine before reading other reviews. In this case I noticed a lot of common threads that I noted as well - Black Cherry & Plum with a relatively sweet finish for a Cab. Excellent every day wine. If you can find more - buy it.
Big nose and big taste. Outstanding wine drinking now. One of the best value/price wines from CH.
Bulls Eye CH winner
This is why, 4-5 years of buying CH, I keep coming
Nice Paso Robles Cab
Nice Paso Robles Cab. Definitely fruit forward and medium body. Very easy to drink. As good or better than some other winery Cabs I have had from this region.
Doesn't taste like a $14 wine; much better; should have bought more, with discount this was a steal. But why a twist top?
Rich blackberry aromas, slight mocha with some earth tones. Some black cherry. Initially a little flat...good balance of acidity and tannin but the fruit doesn't stand up thru the finish. I like it, but I'm not blown away....but solid value for the money.
Excellent lighter cab
