All the components in this blend saw open top, small lot fermenters and were aged for 18 months or more in 50-60% new French oak. The anchor wine is sourced from one of Howell Mountain's legendary estates, with sprawling high-altitude ridgetop vineyards that are recognized as some of the best dirt on Howell Mountain. Combined with our Las Posadas Cabernet, the resulting blend combines the spicy wild berry character of Malbec with the depth and structure of Howell Mountain Cabernet. More than just about any cuvée, this wine illustrates what we do best as négociants eleveur. A screaming deal at $25.
Closed but may improve with time
Closed and thin at this point but shows the ability to improve with more age. After 1 hour in the glass it opens up still somewhat thin. I will try another bottle in January 2020
This was my very first order. It was easy to decide once I saw this wine was made on Howell Mountain. Really just $25.00 for a Howell Mountain wine? is that possible? You bet it is. What a great find for such a low price. It just explodes with flavor and lingers there for eternity. So special, I ordered a second case right away. Can't believe how happy I am to have been told about Cameron Hughes wines. It is a steal!
Excellent, buy more while it lasts!
This is an outstanding Meritage; both my wife and I really enjoy this full bodied blend.
A nice surprise
After reading some of the mix reviews for this bottle I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. For the price point I feel it provided a lot of value, and I am glad I got more than one bottle!
Big wine full of promise if you can keep your hands off it
Superb nose of red fruit subdued rather than bright between layers of humidor/cedar top notes and base notes of leafy tobacco. There is evidence of oak to balance it. Wile not overly tannic and drinkable now, I'd bet this will evolve nicely. It calls for a future comparison tasting with offerings from Randy Dunn and Delia Viader.
Love Howell Mountain
I thoroughly enjoy Mountain Fruit Cabernet. Although this is not a Cabernet, I thoroughly enjoyed this wine. It is very approachable right out the gate.
We paired this with a coffee rubbed pork tenderloin and loved it. Normally I go wtih a syrah or pinot with pork but this pairing was just right!
We purchased this wine to compare with other similarly priced merit ages. It won the taste test. Full bodied. Very nice.
This is sooo Good.
Ordered a case in May of '17 and finally opened a bottle last night. This wine after a few minutes in the glass will not disappoint. Very drinkable and really good.
Love this Howell Mtn. Meritage and so did those that we shared it with last night. Outstanding Value.
Has a body without being on your face, it gets better after breating
This wine has a big flavor in store with a unique peppery finish, but not over done. Interesting and enjoyable on share with friends. Love it!
