Wine Details
The beautiful perfume suggests the presence of ample mountain fruit – ethereal, with violets and ripe bing cherry married with darker berry fruit and chocolate mocha oak notes. Very complex already with more to come. The amply weighted palate has good tension between the mountain fruit components and the plumper benchland fruit – this is no inky monster but well extracted nevertheless, balanced and complex on the palate with a deliciously supple finish.

I am more and more enthusiastic about escaping the confines of “vintage” when it comes to red blends. Today’s release actually came to us “pre-blended” so to speak, already a cuvee of equal parts Napa Valley Cabernet and Merlot with 13% Cab Franc, 9% Malbec, and 7% Petit Verdot rounding out the blend, with 75% 2014 vintage and 25% 2013. The base wine hails from one of Spring Mountain’s legendary estates, with the remainder largely from the heart of Napa Valley (Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena). With a few pieces of Stagecoach M-Block Cabernet and A-Block Merlot rounding out the final blend, this wine is loaded with the finest pedigree from across Napa Valley, and a screaming deal.
