This is California’s version of Northern Rhone Hermitage all the way – opaque and dense in the glass, redolent with violet, pepper bacon, grilled herb and blackberry jam. The French would probably see this as a monstruosité due to its California largess, but at the end of the day, you can’t argue with the purity and precision here…lush, meaty, peppery blackberry core finishes huge with silky tannins providing sweeping texture and breadth. Phenomenal.

This Napa Valley wine is born from some of the best dirt in the Calistoga region – it’s a legendary vineyard, but that’s as specific as I can get. At $25/bottle you may say to yourself that’s kinda getting pricey there mate, but once you bend your beak into this beauty, you’ll understand. I paid Napa Valley Cabernet prices to acquire this wine – I’m confident you will consider it a bargain when it finds its way into your glass. There are only 90 cases available, and the fee for entry here is considerably better than 75% off the retail price (if you could ever find it at retail). It’s first class wine all the way, and has already picked up a Gold Medal from this year's Denver International Wine Competition (with just a few months in the bottle, no less).
