Wine Details
Opaque black in the glass with a hint of red around the rim. Deep and brooding at first, it soon blossoms with pungent plum, blackberry, licorice and graphite aromas with a succulent blueberry top note all bracketed with caramel espresso and crushed volcanic rock. Crazy good. Juicy, rich, and exploding with black fruit, cherry liqueur, and exotic spice across the palate. Supple structure and long, resounding finish.

Like Lot 421, our Lot 513 Triage Red Blend is a harmony of super-high-end componentry woven over hundreds of iterations into a seamless and compelling fabric of a wine. Sure, it’s non-vintage, but don’t let that fool you – vintage, when it comes down to it, can be relentlessly constricting. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve been stymied with a blend because of vintage requirements, and a few years ago we decided to shake off the handcuffs and produce a red blend based solely on wine quality, vintage be damned. Lot 513 is sourced entirely from the volcanic soils of three appellations – Syrah and Grenache from Madder Lake Vineyard in Lake County, killer Petite Sirah from Rockpile AVA in Sonoma County, and equal parts Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet and rocket fuel Syrah from Calistoga. The final blend is 65% 2013, 26% 2014, and 9% 2012 vintage, and took months to perfect and finalize into today’s offering. Every component here is from our high-end barrel aged programs, and the final product is, without a doubt, a top contender for Red Wine Value of the Year.
