2012 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
#1 of 4 super small-lot single vineyard Pinot Noir releases!
Beautifully pure and lifted nose of Bing cherry, ripe raspberry, smoke and anise. Smells great right out of the bottle. On the palate, it's linear and focused, with delineated and complex fruit and savory Burgundian notes; flavors of cherry cola, strawberry, and plush vanilla abound. Overall, a perfectly balanced Pinot with wonderful expression, purity, and fleshy mouthfeel. Gorgeous.
Style: Medium, Fruity
Flavors: Cherry, Strawberry, Vanilla
As I've mentioned before, my favorite opportunity buys are shiners - bottles of wine that have no label on them. Some folks just happen to have a little bit extra out of big vintages like '12/'13/'14, and I was more than happy to scoop these up. Lot 480 is a single vineyard designate wine, saw approximately 35% new French oak, has already been in bottle for two years, and scored 92 and 93 points from the major publications. It is usually only sold in the producing winery's tasting room for $48, but is available here today for only $22!
