93 pts, Steve Heimoff - Cameron Hughes 2013 Lot 457 Meritage (Napa Valley); $18, 14.9%. Great price for a blend this rich and satisfying. It’s a little generic, in the way of a good New World Bordeaux blend, but I can’t imagine that anyone would fault it for that. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot, it’s fleshy, with broad black currant, bitter chocolate, plum and cherry fruit flavors. Shows its pedigree in the finesse of the tannins and crisp acidity. Very good now, and should hold for six years. A steal at less than twenty bucks.
Big, rich, and tremendously powerful, Lot 457 is colored like a cult Cabernet. Deep aromas of juicy blackberry, violet, and graphite enter the mix early right out of the bottle. The wine’s concave nose is matched by an equally powerful (and surprisingly elegant) palate, which comes through with rich flavors of plum and dark chocolate. Lot 457’s fine-grained tannins make for a long finish that also ensures a pretty good shelf life for this guy – it will continue to drink magnificently over the next few years and will easily age through this next decade.

When this first arrived. It was too bold and acidic for my liking so I aged it for 3 years and the bold arroma is still there and the initial taste is fruity and i wanted to swish it around for for more flavor and the finish begs for another sip. It was so good Hadi to pour a 2nd glass. Much like an aged bourdoux. Drank this with and with out food, simply complex and delicious, hope I have a few more bottles for special occasssions.
I'm not a huge fan of bordeaux like blends, but this is big and assertive enough for me to enjoy. It's also easy enough, that I don't feel like I need food with it. Really enjoyable.
one of the best QPR wines here. was better on day 2. jammy, full body, mild tannins
Slightly pricier by a few bucks than a lot of the Meritages CH offers, but well worth it. This blend is wonderful, smooth and drinkable with plenty of depth and power for partnering with hefty dishes like grilled meats. Still a great value wine, wish I could hold on to these long enough to cellar and try them later!
Needs some air, but a good value
First opening the bottle, I get a strong bitterness from the Cabernet coming through. After letting the wine breathe, the Cab settles down and the Merlot starts to come through. Nice wine for the price.
All around good
Big and delicious, this wine is smooth and full flavored. Great with a steak or burger. A great value especially if you pick it up on one of Cam's frequent sales.
LOT 457 Meritage
I have purchased 4 cases of Lot 457 over the past 12
months. It is a awesome wine. My 3 adult children come
home and ask can we open the Cameron Hughes red?
I cannot say NO, it is just so good with steak and lamb.
omg - what a wonderful wine. really love it.
Our favorite red blend
This Meritage has become one of our favorite reds. It goes down very smooth, has great balance, lovely blackberry nose, and a nice finish. We like it so much we ordered more in our most recent order.
Decanter several hours before use
This a big wine that really needs to open up and soften the edges. If you like big Cali reds, this one is for you.
