Wine Details

Lot 404 combines power and elegance in a divinely proportioned wine. It features a pure bouquet with beautiful liquid minerality, hints of graphite, and exotic spice punctuating black fruit essence. A package that is just beginning to unwind. In a word, ethereal. Across the palate this wine shows real “sap” (or what the French would call “sucrosite”) and a silky texture that contrasts blackberry essence and a spine of fine-grained and succulent tannins.

Lot 404 2010 Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon final blend is elevated with small lots of Atlas Peak Cabernet and Calistoga Petit Verdot, and spent 18 months aging in 100% French oak barrels. I have been sourcing wine from Stags Leap for a few years now and work with quite a few growers and producers in this pedigreed appellation. The wine for Lot 404 was assembled from the same vineyards as Lot 189 (92 points Wine Enthusiast). I am confident that this stunning wine will excite you - she is elegant, sophisticated, and incredibly powerful. The best metaphor is a sailing one - well appointed and glorious.

Like Lot 303, I bought some 404 and laid them down in my wine cooler. Opened my last bottle yesterday. It certainly has improved over the time. It's great but can't beat the Napa cabs from 2012 & 2013. I think it's good time to clean up some of these and stock up more 2013.

Bought this a while back and it just laid down quietly. Went down to the basement given it's snowing (again) in Boston, looking for a nice warm red. Found it! I caught the hints of cedar and cherries. Pipe tobacco, not so much. It's a big wine though and the tannins come through. Glad I got a case when I did!

Cam, please find or make more wine like this! This is probably one of my favorite releases. Dark sultry fruit, earthy nose, silky tannins. I will continue to let this grow before I drink it all.

Too bad it's all gone. Love this style of wine.

So I couldn't wait any longer...I had to open a bottle. I decanted for 2 hours and once I was ready, I was met with intense aromas of ripe cherry, cedar, and pipe tobacco. The flavors of ripe plums and dark bing cherries meshed nicely with some oak and vanilla. This is a well structured wine that is balanced with firm tannins which came together in a long, elegant finish with subtle hints of tobacco. It didn't hold up to Lot 360 but I think it will over time. I will not be touching anymore Lot 404 for at least 5 years and look forward to the bottle development that should occur.
