Wine Details

Black core with a crimson rim with a wonderfully pure nose of crème de mure (blackberry liqueur), cassis, hints of mint, graphite and toasty oak notes. On the palate, rich blackberry fruit and cassis are well supported by supple and incredibly well-integrated tannins. You really have to work the wine around in your mouth to even know they are even there. Fantastic purity and tremendous length are apparent, with the aforementioned “ghost tannin” structure and pitch-perfect balance indicating more complexity to come. Juicy, rich, and fine.

Lot 399 is simply our 20 best barrels of Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Assembled one barrel at a time from Cabernet lots representing some of the finest blocks of Stagecoach Vineyard, this is a monumentally structured Cabernet with the stuffing for 20-25 years in the cellar. If you aren’t familiar with Stagecoach, it is an amazing property on Atlas Peak that serves as a source for Icon wines like Caymus Special Select, Paul Hobbes, Sequoia Grove, and Chappellet, amongst many others. Lot 399's final blend saw approximately 90% new French cooperage (Taransaud, Remond, Sirigue, and Francois Freres).

This is my ideal cab. Fantastic right out of the bottle and definitely improved after an hour. Didn't need to decant this one. I'm so disappointed that I waited so long to open this one of two bottles we got I our wine club shipment. I would have definitely bought more had I known!

Wonderful on first glass, better after being open a short period of time. Just saw it was sold out, wish I had ordered more.

I did not open a bottle until about a month after it arrived. Very smooth right out of the bottle. Promptly ordered two more cases.

very good, 1 week after shipment (gave it a little time to settle). good structure/tannin. not quite a fruit bomb, but up front fruit. well rounded wine. i enjoyed it.

I just received this wine today and have poured my first glass. First impression is smooth and balanced with lots of dark fruit, blackberry and black cherry. Nice finish with a hint of tannin. This wine is a best value now that will mature to great heights, if you have the
self control to put it in the cellar for a few years. I'm afraid I will enjoy most of it now.

My review of this 5 years from now will be different than it is today. This wine is structurally sound but it has a ways to go. That being said, it is perfectly fine right now but this wine is still in its infancy and has a lot of growing to do. I ordered a case based on Cam's advice and am in the middle of a bottle right now. The remaining 11 bottles will enjoy some quiet time in the cellar for the next few years. But if I have to review this wine on its own today, it is a bit soft. The nose is quite average, there is not a ton of taste to this wine (as of yet), but the finish is solid as I get a lot of pepper on a pretty long finish. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this wine but it is not real big yet and can be enjoyed on its own. I will rate this Good today but am confident that this wine will move to Great or Best Value quality in 3-5 years.
